BBC Casualty viewers spot former Story of Tracy Beaker star in gory scenes

BBC Casualty viewers were stunned tonight as a fan-favourite from CBBC show The Story of Tracy Beaker popped up in one of the episode’s goriest scenes.

Sharlene Whyte played Jenny in the nostalgic children’s show from 2002-2003.

And she popped up as Jay in Casualty on Saturday, who was suffering from necrosis after having too many lipolysis injections.

Nurse Tina asked: “How many of these injections have you had in the last year?”

And Jay looked embarrassed by the question, knowing she wasn’t supposed to have more than three per year.

“I’m getting married in a couple of weeks and I needed it, and I needed this gone,” she said, gesturing to her stomach.

She added: “It’s my second [wedding], and it needs to be big enough to obliterate all memory of the first.”

Nurse Tina then proceeded to squeeze the pus out of the wound in a flinchingly gory scene.

She said the weight loss procedure had “killed off some of the healthy skin cells instead of the fatty ones”.

Fans immediately took to Twitter to say: “Omg it’s Jenny from Tracy Beaker ahhh”.

Another said: “Omg is that the woman from Tracy Beaker?”

And one wrote: “JENNY FROM TRACY BEAKER”.

But Sharlene has actually appeared in the BBC soap three times before – in 2015 she popped up as Sally Farnworth, as Sarah Watson in 2004 and as Alison Phelps in 2002.

It was later revealed in the episode that Jay’s fiancé, who had undergone sudden extreme weight loss, was suffering from cancer but as he wasn’t a British citizen, couldn’t receive free treatment in the UK.

Tina encouraged him to get treated – and went behind her supervisor’s back to speak to him alone.

But some viewers were sceptical over the revelation.

One asked on Twitter: “Why is it that every doctor/nurse makes a life changing discovery on their first shift? #Casualty”.

But another praised Tina’s intervention, saying: “His weight could be a concern he needs to book a medical appointment and take Tina’s advice.”

And Jay worried her fiancé was only marrying her to gain British citizenship so he could receive free medical care.

But he insisted he wasn’t.

“I was scared, Jay. I thought my life was over. And then I saw you.”
