BBC's Carol Kirkwood shares touching tribute to Louise Minchin ahead of her exit

BBC weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood shared a touching tribute to her fellow co-star Louise Minchin after she announced her last day on the hit morning show BBC Breakfast.

The beloved TV presenter announced she would be leaving the show earlier this year with no set date announced until the meteorologist bid a fond farewell to her loyal legion of fans on Wednesday.

But it wasn’t just viewers who were heartbroken to see her sudden departure, as Carol shared a touching tribute to her close colleague after she presented her final forecast of the show.

After she concluded her final forecast, Carol said: “This is the last time I’m sad to say I’ll be throwing back to Lou.

“Lou, this is the last time we’re going to work together on Breakfast, isn’t it?

“I’m very sad but it’s been such a pleasure, such a joy working with you and I’ve learnt so much from you so thank you for that.

“Thank you for being my friend as well as being my colleague,” she concluded.

An emotional Louise commented: “Oh Carol, you are gorgeous and the good this in that means we can go out for long lunches.

“One of the things I’m really looking forward to, I will miss you but we will continue to be friends,” she reassured.

“Absolutely,” Carol replied and Louise added: “Take care” which the weather presenter agreed: “You too.”

A frustrated Dan interjected their emotional farewell with: “Will you stop it now!” he joked, “I’m not really emotionally prepared for this.”

Louise quipped: “I wasn’t ready for it either Carol, you took me by surprise there. Thank you very much lovely and I will see you soon.”

Earlier in the show, the TV presenter confirmed she would be leaving BBC Breakfast at “the end of summer” with her final show on September 15 after almost 20 years on the show.

Louise explained: “I’ve got an early warning. You know what Carol was saying earlier about how it’s the end of summer officially?”

“Yes”, Dan replied as Louise continued: “I said I was going to leave didn’t I? After the summer.

“So – it’s not today” she reassured fans as a concerned Dan quipped: “I was going to say – are you off?”

“No, I’m not going today” she clarified “I am going to be leaving this programme on the 15th of September, it’s two weeks from today.”
