BBC Breakfast star Carol Kirkwood told off Dan Walker when he blasted her winter weather report as “rubbish” and “horrible”.
The BBC weather expert had just finished telling viewers about what they can expect from the week on Tuesday’s broadcast (December 7) when her co-star Dan offered up a savage verdict on her segment.
Despite being a national treasure, Carol was forced to give bad news to viewers as she forecasted a lot of rain, wind, and cloudy weather for the days ahead, which left Dan far from pleased.
Finishing her segment, Carol was desperate to finish on a positive note as she said: “A lot of cloud around, still cold, and a little bit of sunshine, just to throw in some hope…”
Dan replied: “Oh I love a bit of hope at the end there, Carol, you rescued it right at the end there, thank you.”
Sally chimed in: “That’s what gets us though, isn’t it? We’ll spend the whole day hoping for sunshine.”
Dan then took a cheeky dig at the gloomy forecast as he remarked: “Basically that weather forecast is ‘it’s rubbish, it’s rubbish, it’s pretty horrible, but there might be a little bit of hope at the end.”
The former Strictly star added: “Thank you, Carol!”
It seemed like Carol wasn’t happy with her colleague’s damning on air review, though, because she gave him a stern telling off on air.
She said: “What are you saying about my forecast being rubbish?” as she placed her hands on her hips in a jokingly-angry fashion.
Warning Dan about the repercussions, she added: “I’ll have to have words with you, later.”
Dan had immediately regretted his choice of words as he repeatedly said: “Oh no!”, and Carol was in stitches.
The golf-loving presenter, of course, had been referring to the weather itself being rubbish and not Carol’s presenting skills.
Walker was left fearing that articles such as this would soon be written about the moment – and he was absolutely spot on with his prediction.
Dan added: “Someone’s going to write that up, now!”, which led co-star Sally to weigh in and offer her words of wisdom on the matter.
Sally instructed Dan to compliment Carol’s report, and Dan quickly obliged, saying that it was “excellent”, and that she was great at her job.
