BBC's The One Show's Alex Jones says programme 'kept her sane' ahead of tearful goodbye

The One Show ‘s Alex Jones has waved her final goodbye on the show for a few months as she heads off to have her baby girl, and after feeling overwhelmed with positive messages, she’s sent an additional thank you to fans.

She said that her time on the BBC show during the pandemic has “kept her sane” and shared her gratitude for the fans who have supported her.

After last night’s show, Alex wrote on Twitter: “I’m overwhelmed by all your kind messages after tonight’s show!

“The thing is… working on The One Show during the pandemic has kept me sane and I am truly grateful for your warm welcome every night. I’m off to have our little girl now and swap the green sofa for bath time.”

In an additional post, Alex also said it’s the last time she will ever be perched on the same green sofa as the studio is having a revamp over the summer holidays and a new one will be brought in – so she’s bidding farewell to more than just her colleagues!

Alex certainly dressed for the occasion as the beauty opted for a pink floral swing dress to sit comfortably around her bump as she finished the look with a pair of stunning pink heels.

The 44-year-old is expecting her third child and waved goodbye to her colleagues and viewers at home on last night’s show – but as a heart warming video popped up on screen, Alex was brought to tears.

Viewers, her husband, her parents and fellow hosts all took part in the video as the host became tearful as she thanked everyone who took part.

Alex said: “Oh you know me I cry over the slightest thing. But it’s been… honestly being here is just superb, I loved doing it every night and it’s really hard to go away. I know it the third one but it’s really hard to go away.

“And I just want to say, if I’ve missed anybody a big thank you to everybody who’s knitted lovely little gifts for the baby.”

Alex is certainly going to be missed by fans after the host has spent 11 years on the show, but in that time she has had two other children and returned to the show after her maternity leave.

The host is hoping to return in the Autumn as she takes a few months out of work to give birth to her baby girl, who she announced she was expecting in March this year.
