Ben Shephard jokes Tyson Fury is busy partying in Vegas after interview no-show

Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway have been left red-faced after being stood up by their guest Tyson Fury.

The champion boxer was due to appear on Friday’s instalment Good Morning Britain but failed to turn up for his scheduled interview.

Instead, his boxing promoter Frank Warren sat in the hot seat as Ben and Kate went on air to introduce the segment.

Tyson is currently in Las Vegas with Frank ahead of his big-money fight against Deontay Wilder this weekend.

The pair are due to battle it out in the ring for the WBC heavyweight title – the belt that Tyson, AKA The Gypsy King, was due to go head-to-head with Anthony Joshua for earlier this year.

That match was put on the back burner after Deontay invoked his contractual right to a third attempt at beating Tyson and winning the coveted title.

Kate started the interview with Frank by asking where Tyson was.

She said: “Good Morning, nice to speak to you this morning. We’re hunting around hotel rooms are we for Tyson right now? Do we know where he is? I hope he’s going to join us.”

The baffled promoter replied: “No, he’s in his house and we’re trying to get him now, I don’t know what’s happened, we’re working on it.

“Unfortunately I’m not with him, I’m on the strip and he’s bought a house out here so he’s at home.”

Kate then asked: “Look, you’re so experienced Frank in all of this, we were wondering if your role in all of this is part the brilliant promoter and manager and all of that that you are, and also part parent – that you have to slightly parent him, is that how it feels?”

Frank, appearing slightly unimpressed, then responded: “No not at all, he’s a big boy now. The difference in Tyson over the last few years has been amazing and he’s in an amazing place at the moment, both physically and mentally.”

The presenting team then chatted to Frank for several minutes in hope of Tyson making his scheduled appearance – which sadly never happened.

Before signing off from their chat Ben joked: “Frank before we let you go, and I know we’re still trying to hunt down Tyson…

“Hopefully he did go home last night and he’s not out on the strip enjoying himself!”

Tyson’s fight with Deontay takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday.

Fans wanting to watch the fight night live will need to stay up until 4am BST.

The event will be broadcast exclusively on BT Sport Box Office, with both Fury and Wilder are scheduled to attend a pre-fight weigh-in tonight (October 8) at 10pm BST.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
