Mark Hoppus has been diagnosed with a stage four lymphoma, the Blink-182 bassist has announced, though he is determined to beat the cancer.
In June, the musician, 49, revealed he had been undergoing chemotherapy over the past three months, and faced further tests this week.
Sadly, Mark has since been diagnosed with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma Stage 4-A, meaning the disease has entered “four different parts” of his body.
Speaking to fans in a live Twitch stream – which was subsequently uploaded to YouTube – Mark discussed how he felt about his diagnosis.
He told his fans: “I don’t know how exactly they determine the four-part of it but it’s entered enough parts of my body that I’m Stage 4, which I think is the highest that it goes. So, I’m Stage 4-A.”
Despite the devastating news, Mark remains positive and pledged to beat the disease in the months to come.
“We’re beating this cancer. It’s just a matter of time,” he added.
It comes after Mark informed fans his new tests could determine whether he lives or dies, thanking his fans for their encouragement and support throughout his treatment.
When he first addressed his diagnosis, Mark looked to the future, promising his fans he’d see them at a Blink-182 concert once he beat cancer.
“It sucks and I’m scared, and at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this,” he wrote.
“I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive. Can’t wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the near future.”
Born in California, Mark rose to fame in the 90s when he formed Blink-182 with original members Tom DeLonge and Scott Raynor, the band going on to enjoy multiplatinum success.
A pioneer in the pop punk movement, the group – in which Mark has been the only constant member – have seen albums like Enema of the State and Dude Ranch receive critical acclaim.
Meeting through former band member Tom, he is married to wife of 21 years Skye Everly, the couple welcoming their only child, son Jack, in 2002.
