Bradley Walsh confesses he might retire in two years' time and 'that'll be it'

After 12 years on air, The Chase has to be one of the best-loved game shows on British TV. A huge part of its success comes down to host Bradley Walsh.

But with plenty of other commitments on top of filming a daily quiz show, Bradley, 61, is dreaming of retirement.

Speaking to The Sun, the cheeky chappie revealed: “You know what, in a couple of years time I won’t have to do any of it, I’ll be retired and that’ll be it.

“It seems like I’m on your screen all the time only because I cram everything in.

We make 210 Chases, 16 Celebrity Chases, 16 Beat The Chasers. It’s only actually 86 days recording.”

The father of two is now best known for delivering quips with the quizzing – yet he likes to have other projects on the go.

His ITV show Breaking Dad, where his son Barney, 23, takes him on a challenge-packed road trip across several countries, has been a big hit. It’s expected that the duo will return for a fifth series.

Bradley has also landed a dream role in the new version of The Darling Buds of May, called The Larkins. Taking on the iconic role of Pop Larkin, previously played by David Jason, Bradley’s co-stars include Joanna Scanlon and former Doctor Who Peter Davison.

The cast for the new show, which is coming to ITV, has been spotted filming in Kent seaside town Broadstairs. It’s expected to be a three to four-month shoot.

Bradley, who has been married to Donna Derby for 24 years, has had a varied career in entertainment. He’s had acting roles in Coronation Street, Doctor Who and Law & Order: UK.

His gameshow duties have included Wheel of Fortune and Cash Trapped. He’s also hosted Tonight at the London Palladium, appeared in plenty of pantomimes and released two solo albums.

Taking to the Strictly ballroom is one area of TV he definitely doesn’t want to try, though.

He told the Sliding Doors podcast: “If you can’t dance, you can’t sell it, no matter how big a showman you are. Stick to what you know best. I’ve been asked a couple of times to go on Strictly.

“But I’m not a dancer. I don’t even think I’m a good dad dancer. I’m a bad dad dancer, which makes things even worse.”

The Chase continues at 5pm weekdays on ITV
