Britney Spears’ mother Lynne Spears is said to be pleased with the big update regarding her daughter’s conservatorship battle.
The Toxic singer, 39, has been locked in a years-long bid to free herself from the conditions of her 13-year-long conservatorship.
On Thursday, Britney scored an unexpected win in the case when her 69-year-old father Jamie confirmed he would step down as her conservator “when the time is right”.
Her mother Lynne, 66, has since reacted positively to the news.
Lynne responded through a lawyer, who told the New York Times that she is “pleased Jamie has agreed to step down”.
The lawyer added: “Lynne entered into this conservatorship to protect her daughter almost three years ago.
“She has accomplished what she set out to do.”
While Lynne is reportedly pleased to hear about Jamie’s plans to step down as Britney’s conservator, the relationship between the pop star’s parents seem to be growing acrimonious.
In a court filing on Thursday, Jamie appeared to criticise Lynne for her “limited involvement” in Britney’s life over recent years.
Jamie’s lawyer wote: “Instead of criticising Mr. Spears, Lynne should be thanking him for ensuring Ms. Spears’ well-being and for persevering through the years-long tenure requiring his 365/24/7 attention, long days and sometimes late night, to deal with day-to-day and emergency issues — all to protect Ms. Spears and those around her charged with protecting his daughter.
“Lynne has had only limited involvement in Ms. Spears’ life these last thirteen years.
“She has not had a parental role in her life for decades.”
Following the conservatorship update, Britney herself shares a cryptic photo to her 33.3 million Instagram followers.
