Caroline Flack was told she may be bipolar just weeks before tragic death, reveals mum

Tragic Love Island host Caroline Flack was told she may have bipolar disorder just weeks before her death, her mother Christine has revealed.

The TV host found out she would be prosecuted for attacking her then boyfriend, Lewis Burton, and that she had also been dropped by a major children’s cancer charity.

Christine, 71, who has three other children with husband Ian; Liz, Paul and Caroline’s twin, Jody said: “Carrie suffered for a long while, but never showed it because her outgoing personality covered everything.

“Mainly she was happy, and funny, and brilliant. She just had these terrific down times – and not many people saw those down times.”

Talking to the Sun she said: “That was the thing; she hid it. The last doctor she saw thought she may have had bipolar. And that’s what I always thought. It was just constant highs, all of a sudden, then the lows.”

Caroline was ‘ashamed’ of showing her ‘dark side’’ and Christine has revealed that her most hated putdown was when people told her “you’re mental.”

She urged her millions of followers to ‘be kind’ in an Instagram post before her death.

Caroline took her own life on February 15 2020.

Former Love Island stars Sophie Gradon, 32, and Mike Thalassitis, 26, also took her own lives, which has raised major concerns about contestants care on and after the show.

She denied all charges that she had attacked her ex-boyfriend with a lamp.

Christine also spoke about her daughter’s death in a documentary

Christine Flack shared that Caroline will be honoured at the NHS Awards on September 14, to shed some light on the stigma around mental health issues in the UK.

As well as her ongoing court case with her ex-boyfriend, Caroline was gutted that ITV2 bosses had chosen to axe her from Love Island and give her job to friend, Laura Whitmore, to host the 2020 winter series of the popular dating show.

The Irish presenter continues to host Love Island but Christine admits she cannot bring herself watch a single episode since Caroline’s death.
