Cat Deeley is set to take on her first UK TV gig since 2006 – and she presents Lorraine.
The star, who moved across the pond 14 years ago, returned to the UK with husband Patrick Kielty last year and has since been headhunted by ITV bosses.
Now the 43-year-old has told that Lorraine Kelly has trusted her to front her morning show while she takes a break.
“Lorraine has kindly entrusted me with her show while she has a break over Easter,” in-demand Cat told The Mirror.
“I’m so happy to be back at ITV for the coming week and looking forward to meeting some people I’ve wanted to interview for sometime and also welcoming some old friends on air.”
And what a time for Cat to step in – Lorraine is enjoying soaring viewing figures, its best in a decade.
In the first ten weeks of 2021, it saw a 35% hike in viewing figures.
Guests for her time in Lorraine’s chair will include Louise Redknapp – who she knows from her SMTV days – as well as Loose Women panellist Stacey Solomon, singer Tom Odell and actress Melanie Hill.
The show’s editor, Victoria Kennedy, enthused: “Next week the lovely Cat Deeley will take to the helm of Lorraine, providing viewers at home with much-needed Easter enjoyment.
“As a huge fan of SMTV, I’m more than just a bit delighted. And of course we look forward to welcoming Ranvir back too. We’ve got a great line-up of Easter guests joining us.”
Meanwhile, fans were taken on a trip down memory lane as Cat recently reunited with SMTV co-hosts Ant and Dec to mark the 30th anniversary of the kids’ show.
Cat has also shared that part of her family’s decision to move back to the UK was based in fears over gun violence in the US.
She told You magazine that Patrick and son Milo were at a shopping mall in Los Angeles when FBI agents ordered everyone to cover because there was a gunman on the loose.
“They shut down the centre,” she recalled, “I got a call from Paddy, saying, ‘They’re taking us out through the fire exits but nobody can get to their car. If we walk to a junction, can you come and get us?'”
*Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV1 and catch up on ITV Hub.
