Channing Tatum famously starred alongside Jenna Dewan in noughties dance film Step Up, which was released in 2006 with the duo as the main characters in the story.
Speculation of their romance stirred in January 2006 when the duo attended Sundance Film Festival, but nothing was confirmed until August 2006 at the premiere of Step Up as the couple walked hand-in-hand on the red carpet.
Although the couple marked one of the biggest showbiz pairings at the time, they decided to call it quits three years ago as they confirmed that they needed to grow apart.
Their split was amicable, but the duo have since dated other people while working around co-parenting – but what did happen in their relationship and their marriage before their split?
Step Up
The release of Step Up saw viewers recognising their undeniable chemistry from the minute they started watching the film. The classic love story saw two people from different worlds fall in love as they both shared a passion for dancing.
It seems that the passion was undeniable off-set too, as the pair soon started one of the most famous showbiz romances of the late noughties.
In 2013, Channing told Elle that he almost didn’t ask Jenna out, he said: “I had just gotten out of a pretty long relationship. I was trying to run from what I knew Jenna was – not someone I was just going to date.”
Engagement and wedding
Two years after they made their romance official, Channing popped the question in front of a handful of friends in Maui in September 2008.
The couple were still basking in their whirlwind romance as they remained absolutely head over heels for one another and tied the knot in an outdoor wedding in Malibu in July 2009.
The pair were still avidly working, with one of Channing Tatum’s most famous films, Dear John, releasing in the following January and the happy couple attended together.
Baby Everly
In December 2012 the pair confirmed they were expecting their first child together and confirmed the arrival of their daughter in May 2013.
The announcement on Channing’s official website read: “Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Channing Tatum are thrilled to announce the birth of their daughter, Everly Tatum, who was born on May 31 in London.”
Shortly after the statement, the pair posted their first snap with Everly as they celebrated their first Father’s Day.
The couple carried on working throughout and became the ultimate team to ensure that both of them could work while still being around Everly and ensuring they were able to bond with her.
Jenna recently spoke out about her struggles with becoming a mother, revealing that Channing was “unavailable” when their daughter was first born.
She said: “I had to travel with her and at the time, Chan wasn’t available to be with us for the most part.
“That was really hard because that was long hours. I did have her on set with me constantly. It was just really difficult.
“And I had a lot of postpartum anxiety I would say,” she continued. “It was like, I just never stopped. You know, you’re up a couple times in the night and then you’re working all day. I was breastfeeding, I was pumping, I was without a partner, I mean it was just craziness.”
Nostalgia
When you’ve lived your relationship in the spotlight, it’s certainly easy to hold on to the nostalgia, which is something that Channing and Jenna tried to do.
In 2016 Jenna shared a video in her garden with Channing with the caption ’10 years later’ as they recreated their iconic dance scene from Step Up.
The photo landed nearly half a million likes as their followers showered the pair with love in the romantic throwback clip.
The split
Prior to their split, Channing and Jenna showed nothing but pure love between the pair, but in April 2018, they revealed that they have decided to end their relationship after almost nine years of marriage.
In the statement, they said: “We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together.
“Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.”
It was reported that the pair had been growing apart for some time before their split as they chose to end it amicably.
Shortly after, the pair filed for divorce, with it reportedly going through in November 2019.
New Relationships, Engagements and Extending Family
In November 2018 Channing Tatum started dating Jessie J, with the pair taking part in an on-again, off-again relationship from 2018 to 2020.
Meanwhile, Jenna also started dating someone new in November 2018 as she built her relationship with Steve Kazee; the following year it was announced that Jenna and Steve were expecting their first child together.
The pair welcomed a baby boy into their family shortly after Jenna and Steve got engaged in early 2020, welcoming their son in March of that same year.
Channing and Jenna have been co-parenting in the years that followed the split, but they both appear to have happily moved on from their high-profile romance.
