Chef Jack Stein is set to become a star – just like his dad

Celebrity chef Rick Stein has naturally passed on his cooking talents to his son Jack Stein, who is now a Chef Director at the family restaurants and will be appearing on this season of ITV’s Cooking With The Celebs.

Born in Cornwall, Jack was brought up by the sea, surrounded by food, feeling at home in restaurants and travelling the world.

From a young age, Jack gained a huge love of hospitality, starting his career early as a kitchen porter during the summer holidays.

When he turned 16 he moved forward to the front of house, becoming a waiter and continued this through his uni education.

Jack attended Cardiff University where he studied Psychology, which then led him to gain a masters in Ancient History.

With his degrees in tow and love for food following him throughout his studies, Jack rejoined the family business as a Commis Chef at the Seafood Restaurant.

His cooking skills have taken him to restaurants across the world as a well-established chef, cooking in La Régalade in Paris, Tetsuya’s in Sydney as well as Australia, the Far East and Japan.

Returning from travelling the world with a whole new set of taste buds, Jack became Sous Chef at the Rick Stein’s Cafe.

Later, in 2017 Jack became Chef Director of all the family-owned restaurants, overseeing all menus, the cookery school and over 100 chefs across the seafood restaurants.

Rick Stein’s restaurants can be found across the UK – in Padstow, St Merryn, and Newquay, Winchester, Sandbanks, London and Marlborough.

Since becoming Chef Director, Jack has launched his own cookery course at the Rick Stein’s Cookery School, called ‘Cook with Jack Stein’.

On the Rick Stein website, Jack explains his childhood – “The restaurant became our second home or even the first.

“I grew up in and around a kitchen. There was something incredibly exciting about that existence – being a young kid and being with chefs and waiters and waitresses.

Talking about the restaurants as a chef director Jack said “I go into work every day with a smile on my face”.

Adding: “Friends feel intimidated about cooking for me. They say, ‘I can’t cook for you. You’re a chef.’ And I say, ‘The act of you giving me food is enough for me.’”.

As well as his expertise in cooking and director of multiple restaurants, Jack has also become a familiar face across a variety of TV’s programs.

Some of these include Wine, Dine and Stein, Jack Stein: Born to Cook, Inside the Box, Saturday Kitchen, Sunday Brunch and Packed Lunch.

Jack will also be joining seven other celebrity chefs on this year’s Cooking With The Stars.

And if that wasn’t impressive enough Jack has also written his own cookbook called World on a Plate.
