Cheryl has paid an emotional tribute to her friend Sarah Harding on what would’ve been the Girls Aloud star’s 40th birthday.
The much loved star tragically died on September 5 at the age of 39 months after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Cheryl has shared a fun montage of her time in Girls Aloud, and especially some of Sarah’s best moments.
The video, which was more than a minute-and-a-half long, showed the girls having fun on-stage, backstage, on television shows and featured Cheryl and the other members speaking about Sarah.
In the caption, Cheryl wrote: “Memories may be all we’re left with, but they’re enough to last a lifetime,” adding a sparkle emoji and “#Sarahs40th” to the end.
The video featured a throwback clip of Cheryl speaking about Sarah, saying: “Always stood out as her own character, kind of the crazy one that was just unique and in her own world.”
Cheryl’s post was soon flooded with heart emojis and plenty of crying faces too.
One person wrote: “Oh my heart.”
Another said: “I am a mess after watching that. Sending lots of love.”
A third commented: “Oh this is beautiful, sending you love.”
And someone else added: “Happy birthday beautiful Sarah. Stay strong.”
Sarah died the morning after Cheryl made her long-awaited return to the stage, with a headliner performance at London festival Mighty Hoopla.
The former X Factor judge had been scheduled to perform at Birmingham Pride a few weeks later but had to pull out as she dealt with her grief.
At the time, Cheryl told fans: “Saying goodbye to somebody you spent such a massive piece of your life with is like nothing else.
“My heart is heavy, grief is such a harsh experience and an absolute rollercoaster of emotions. Questions without answers and pain without resolve, so tumultuous and constant.
“With that said I’m so sorry but I am really not emotionally, mentally or physically able to perform for you this Saturday at Birmingham Pride.
“I apologise wholeheartedly and I can only hope for your understanding. I promise I will make it up to you somehow.
“I feel now I just need some time to sit with my feelings and process my grief.
“Nothing prepares you for this bit.”
Sarah announced in August 2020 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and it had sadly spread to other parts of her body.
She shared the terrible news in March of this year that it was terminal, and she was not expecting to “see another Christmas”.
After her death, Cheryl and the other Girls Aloud members – Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts – all paid tribute.
Cheryl said that Sarah would be “forever in our hearts”, while Kimberley said that her “heart was broken”.
