A comedian joked he has “cursed” for Prince Philip’s death when he discovered the news during his gig.
Lewis Spears, from Australia, was doing a stand-up comedy in Melbourne and made a joke about how the Royal Family have recently been in the news for all the wrong reasons when an audience announced the death of the Duke.
The 23-year-old mentioned Meghan Markle’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey and compared the royals as characters in Disney movie Shrek.
Sharing the segment on his YouTube channel, Lewis said: “Also have you seen Prince Philip? The c*** is 3,000 years old.
“I’m pretty sure he invented racism.”
While the crowd is giggling, a man shouts from below the stage: “He just died!”
Looking shocked, Lewis responds: “What?!” He takes the phone from the crowd and confirms the news by reading Buckingham Palace’s statement.
Lewis then carries on skewering the late prince, insensitively saying: “I have to say… a bit overdue.
“Are we sure he died today? I reckon he died 10 years ago and they wheel him out attached to strings at special events.
Like what you see? Then fill your boots…

“People look at him and go ‘aw I reckon that guy is dead’ and then someone comes up behind him and goes ‘I don’t like women’, [and everyone goes] ‘oh he’s fine’.
“For a while I was thinking the only thing keeping him alive was the power of racism.”
The high-spirited crowd laugh and clap while listening Lewis to carry on mocking Prince Philip for another four minutes.
He also poked fun at Prince Philip’s last seen photo of leaving King Edward VII’s Hospital.
“It looks like he went to the hospital for X-ray and they accidentally left him in the machine for a week,” Lewis added.
The comedian tweeted on Saturday: “Never been more proud to be Australian.
“So… who am I joking about next?”
