Coronation Street fans outraged as soap unexpectedly delayed by football match

Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans are fuming after the Euros 2021 caused both soaps to be delayed.

Fans were tweeting demanding to know what had happened and why their favourite shows weren’t on.

Emmerdale was scheduled to start at 7.30pm, with Coronation Street following at 8pm.

Despite the match between Spain and Switzerland finishing in time, ITV continued to show the post-match discussions.

The football went outside of the planned slot due to going to penalties.

Emmerdale finally aired at 8.15pm, with the announcer saying it was later than expected.

Viewers expressed their unhappiness about the delay on social media.

One fan asked: “What’s happened to Emmerdale and Coronation Street tonight? All we have is football, which a lot of people have NO interest in. Put it one of the many other channels. “

“And there was me looking forward to #Emmerdale,” said another.

Another fumed: “What’s with this boring prolonged football punditry and analysis?! What’s happening with Corrie tonight?”

Football caused soaps to be delayed

Someone else asked: “Where is Emmerdale and Coronation Street tonight. The football has finished.”

Many football fans fought back, pointing out that the episodes are available to watch online.

One footie supporter replied: “It ain’t that deep tbf you could just watch today’s Emmerdale and Corrie now on the ITV Hub.”

It didn’t cheer soap fans up though, who were annoyed that the sport delayed their plans.

ITV have been uploading episodes early

Fans are eager to see Fiz find out that Tyrone and Alina are expecting.

However many pointed out those without the internet or reliable computers can’t simply watch online if delays like this happen.

Others were unimpressed there was no apology for the delay from the announcement at the end of Emmerdale.

Hopefully, it was worth the wait!
