There’s set to be plenty of drama in Coronation Street next week, as David and Shona Platt unwittingly find themselves embroiled in a hit-and-run horror which leaves Todd Grimshaw battling injuries in hospital.
Shona (Julia Goulding) has been slowly recovering from a brain injury after being shot on Christmas Day in 2019.
Now safely back on the Street, Shona lets herself into No. 8 in her dressing gown, and confesses to David (Jack P. Shepherd) that she went to move his car but hit something in the process.
Shona panicked and drove away from the scene, leaving David shocked by her admission.
The pair travel to the scene of the accident but find no evidence, so shrug it off and ask mechanic Abi to fix the dent in David’s car.
Meanwhile, Eileen tells Billy that Todd – who recently fell out of favour on the Street after his wicked plan to get vicar Billy back was exposed – has been the victim of a hit and run and is recovering in hospital.
Shona admits to Abi that she was driving the car, knew she’d hit something but just panics, and Abi reluctantly agrees not to go to the police.
Back in the hospital, a battered and bruised Todd informs mum Eileen that he can’t remember much about the accident – but Eileen is just relieved to see her disgraced son is on the mend.
David assures his wife that he’s hidden the car and plans to pay Todd a visit in hospital to test the waters and work out how much he remembers of the incident.
Later, copper Craig calls at the house and informs David that they found his car dumped in a pub car park miles away, with a huge dent in it.
David does his best to remain calm throughout, but as soon as Craig is gone, he and Shona are left to mull over their options.
Sarah is left stunned when she witnesses Craig placing David under arrest on suspicion of failing to stop and report a road traffic accident.
At the police station, Officer Tinker interviews David and reveals that the paint fragments found on Todd’s clothes match those on the car – but later informs David that new evidence has come to light, and he’s free to go.
Having moved back into No. 11, Todd vows to be a better person to Mary, beginning with his fulfilment of his community service.
When Billy realises Todd has been assigned to work at the soup kitchen, he’s furious and sends him packing.
It’s down to Mary to try and make Billy see sense, as she queues up at the soup kitchen and persuades the vicar to find a job for his ex-fiancé or he could end up in prison.
A heartbroken Billy begrudgingly relents, but reveals to Todd that they won’t be working together as he’s ensured they’ll be on different shifts.
Todd realises he has a long way to go before his ex forgives him – but was Shona really responsible for the hit and run, or could there be another explanation?
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV.
