Coronation Street actress Mollie Gallagher has won the best Serial Drama Performance award at this year’s National Television Awards.
She was at the annual ceremony, which celebrates and recognises the nation’s best television and soap stars and their performances from the past year.
Mollie has been involved in great storylines over the past year on Corrie as Nina, most recently involving the murder of her boyfriend Seb after they were brutally attacked.
Shortlisted for the award this year were Billy Price, who plays Sid Summer in Hollyoaks, Sally Carman, as Abi Franklin in Coronation Street, Mollie, who plays Nina Lucas in Coronation Street, and Danny Dyer, as Mick Carter in EastEnders.
There were a total of 25 actors and actress who had received an initial nomination for their portrayals of their characters in the past year.
Some of those who sadly missed out on the shortlist included Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow, Coronation Street), David Neilson (Roy Cropper, Coronation Street) Balvinder Sopal (Suki Panesar, EastEnders) Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel Thomas, Emmerdale) and Richard Blackwood (Felix Westwood, Hollyoaks)
The annual awards bash took place live at London’s O2 Arena in front of a live audience.
The iconic annual awards show was hosted live by comedian and TV presenter Joel Dommett for the first time.
It saw him host the big event at London’s O2 Arena with soap stars, celeb presenters and all of the nation’s favourite stars in attendance.
This was the first time the NTAs was hosted in front of a live audience in 18 months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It was the 26th National Television Awards, with the first one taking place in 1995, which was hosted by broadcaster and journalist Eamonn Holmes.
Previous hosts have included Sir Trevor McDonald, comedian and judge David Walliams and Dermot O’Leary.
NTA’s host Joel Dommett took to the stage to present the bash for the first time, taking over from comedian and Britain’s Got Talent judge David Walliams.
However, it is thanks to Joel’s wife Hannah that he got the big presenting job.
The comedian told The Sun: “I owe her everything.
“We met at the perfect time, especially in regards to my career, as she’s helped me stay focused and if ever I have a grand idea of myself she quickly brings me back down to earth and keeps me grounded.
“Hannah is my secret weapon. She makes me feel like I’m a better person and made me re-evaluate my priorities.”
