Bethany Platt has long since been a Coronation Street fan favourite since actress Lucy Fallon stormed onto our screens in 2015.
She is Sarah Platt’s (Tina O’Brien) daughter, born when Sarah was just 13 years old and became pregnant with classmate Neil Fearns, who was never involved in Bethany’s life.
But Lucy wasn’t the first actress to play Bethany, as the role was first taken on by a pair of twins.
Amy and Emily Walton played Bethany from 2000 until 2007, taking over the role from Mia Cookson, who played her as a baby.
Despite their young age, the twins were involved in major stories including Richard Hillman’s attempts to murder her along with grandma Gail, uncle David and mum Sarah by driving them into a canal.
The Lancashire-born twins have now quit acting to pursue a very different passion indeed.
Despite a credit in soap spin-off Coronation Street: Pantomime, a Christmas special set on the cobbles, it appears they wanted to go into sport instead.
According to Amy’s Instagram page, she is a Great British gymnast – something twin Emily shares a passion in.
Emily has a particular interest in trampolining.
In one snap of the twins standing side by side, they could be seen getting ready for a glam night out with their arms around each other.
One of the girls was wearing a white crop top and black jeans, while the other rocked a black dress, and both their brunette hair fell past their shoulders.
They looked a far cry from little Bethany Platt, now aged 22.
Though Lucy Fallon took on the role in 2015, redefining what people thought of when they conjured a picture of Bethany, she almost missed out on scooping a spot in Corrie.
An older actress, Katie Redford, lied about her age while auditioning for Bethany – claiming she was 19 when she was actually 25.
She was later found out by soap bosses, when producers found an old online CV which revealed her birth year as 1989.
Thankfully, the incident didn’t spell the end of Katie’s acting career, as she went on to join the cast of The Archers as Lily Pargetter.
And though Lucy herself left Corrie as her character Bethany headed off to London, she is keeping fans updated on her personal life via social media – and recently shared her relationship with new footballer boyfriend.
Lucy is dating Preston North End midfielder Ryan Ledson, sharing some sweet date night snaps of the two cuddled up at a restaurant.
“Date nights are back,” Lucy captioned the snaps, looking sensational in a pink blazer.
Lucy split from her ex Tom Leech last year after dating for three years.
