Corrie icon Amanda Barrie has 'no regrets' over thumping Gordon Ramsay in 2004

Coronation Street’s Amanda Barrie has revealed that she has absolutely “no regrets” about whacking Gordon Ramsay in 2004.

The TV icon, 86, who was best know for her role on Coronation Street as Alma Sedgewick, explained that she’d never lived down the time she’d appeared on the TV chef’s programme Hell’s Kitchen.

On the programme, things appeared to become explosive very quickly as Amanda clenched her fist and struck the restaurant owner.

Amanda explained to Daily Star that reality had been quite different and there had been a “long build up” before the altercation.

If the Bad Girls star could go back in time, she admitted her punch would have been a “bit harder”.

Speaking about the violent outburst, the Carry On actress said: “I’ll never live that down. If it had been a bit harder it would have been better.

“I’ve never hit anyone unless it was well deserved.”

Amanda added: “And it’s never the way you see it, there’s always a backstory.

“I mean it looked at that point as if I was cross at that moment but it was a long build up.

“I’d just gone flat on my back in an ice room which I’d warned him about sixty eight times. “

Amanda wished she could have hit the TV chef a “bit harder”

The ITV soap star continued: “So when he called me over at that moment I wasn’t supposed to be in that shot and I think I just lost my rag because I’d just had a really bad fall.

“Anyway, I don’t really regret it at all. He has got that sort of face.

“I don’t think he’ll be asking me to open any of his restaurants anytime soon. I think I dissolved into a soufflé somewhere in the past.”

Amanda won’t be clearing the air with Gordon anytime soon

Amanda’s career kicked off in 1961 when she made her West End debut starring in productions including Cabaret, Private Lives, Hobson’s Choice and Aladdin.

Two years later, Amanda landed herself a role on the big screens in the film Carry On Cabby, she was such a hit with fans that she was invited back for Carry On Cleo in 1964.

The actress still has a successful on-stage career to this day and she’s preparing to take on the role of the Fairy Godmother in the pantomime, Cinderella as the festive season gets underway.

The production is written and directed by Lee Waddingham and will take place at the Queen’s Theatre, Barnstaple from December 10 to December 31, 2021.
