Corrie icon Johnny Briggs reportedly cut drug addict daughter out of his £550k will

Coronation Street star Johnny Briggs cut his drug-addict daughter out of his £550,000 will, it has been revealed.

The actor – who played the role of the womanising factory boss Mike Baldwin in the soap for 30 years – passed away back in February at the age of 85.

Following his death earlier this year, it has been reported that the dad-of-six left his UK and US assets including his house in Florida to five of his six children.

In a recent exposé, The Sun has explained how the established actor deliberately left out his eldest daughter after he disowned her in 1980.

It is believed Johnny’s relationship with his daughter Karen Briggs, 55, first fell apart when she allegedly gave her daughter, who was 14 at the time, Class A drugs.

The TV star earned up to £200,000-a-year as one of the ITV soap’s staple characters on the Cobbles until he finally bid farewell to Weatherfield in 2006.

After his passing, his estate was reportedly split equally between his five other children – Jennifer Davies, 43, Michael Briggs, 41, Stephanie Briggs, 39, Anthony Briggs and Mark Briggs, both aged 58.

But it is thought Karen and her father were never able to rebuild their once loving relationship.

And things soon went from bad to worse for the father-daughter duo when Karen and Johnny’s granddaughter, Emma Beach, now 37, were jailed for stealing bikes in order to fund their drug addictions.

Like his onscreen character, Johnny was a serial ladies’ man who was divorced twice and had a number of affairs throughout his life time, including one with an air hostess reportedly half his age.

Karen has since assigned blame to her late father’s infidelities being one of the main reasons behind her heroin addiction.

She was the second child born from Johnny’s first marriage to Caroline Sinclair alongside her brother Mark who was welcomed just two years prior.

Since she first started abusing the illegal substance, the mum-of-one has amassed a string of criminal convictions alongside her fellow addict daughter Emma.

In a statement following his death, his family said: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Johnny Briggs.

“He passed away peacefully this morning after a long ill ness, with family by his side. He was 85.

“We politely ask for privacy at this time, so that we can quietly grieve as a family and remember the wonderful times we had with him. Thank you.”
