Corrie star Beverley Callard undergoing facelift to make her career last longer

Former Coronation Street stalwart Beverley Callard is hoping to extend her acting career by refreshing her look with a facelift.

The Liz McDonald star, who spent 30 years on the ITV soap, swiftly became a Weatherfield favourite.

But the actress finally decided to call time on the cobbles last year as the outgoing barmaid.

Beverley says her reasons for undergoing the cosmetic surgery procedure are because she feels the pressure of ageism and sexism in telly.

At 63, the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star is determined to take the power into her own hands to give her career a new lease of life.

And the star is hopeful that with an appearance refresh, she will receive lots more roles to sink her teeth into.

Bev Callard says she was offered plastic surgery when she came out of the castle

Speaking to author and soap agent Melanie Blake on her Youtube series “Girl Talk,” Beverley opened up on her decision.

“I’m not doing it for anyone else,” the actress said in the latest episode. “I’m sixty-three, I don’t actually want to be any younger.

“But I don’t want my working life to finish because of the number of years I am rather than anything else.”

Bev went on to explain that another major reason for going under the knife is down to her own under-confidence.

“Also, I’m never happy with me, that’s my demons, I hate mirrors,” she said.

“I don’t look at photographs of myself and it’s not false modesty, I just don’t like it.

“Even if we’re in the car and Jon’s driving and I pull the mirror down, I have to put it back up, I hate it. That’s just me,” the star added.

Bev Callard said she wondered if Corrie would kill Liz off now she won’t return to the soap

“So I feel maybe my working life won’t come to an end because of the way I look.”

Beverley has enjoyed a successful and enduring career in TV, also featuring in the comedy series Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps.

She also enjoys working in theatre and performed on The Rocky Horror Picture Show tour.

But the actress insisted that while she will never “lie” about her age, she hopes a facelift will make her “look a bit better”.
