Dan Walker red-faced as BBC Breakfast's Sally shuts him down after strip joke

BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker was quickly shut down by his co-star Sally Nugent on Tuesday morning’s show, after he suggested that he would present the morning programme in his shorts.

The UK has been experiencing good weather over the last few days and according to BBC weather lady Carol Kirkwood, the warmer days are set to continue.

Excited by the news that temperatures will be high on Wednesday, Dan, 44, turned to Carol and said: “Oh I might present breakfast in my shorts tomorrow, Carol.”

Quick to pick up on this, Sally didn’t seem impressed as she replied: “Oh, heck!”

But meteorologist Carol didn’t seem to mind if Dan stripped down to his shorts and chimed: “I’ll look forward to that!”

Laughing through the awkwardness of it all, Dan said: “The boss is listening, I’m sure it will be quickly banned.”

Jokingly, Sally replied: “You’ve realised you’ve said it now, that will be [online] in like 2 and half minutes.”

Broadcaster Dan, who usually presents the breakfast programme with co-host Louise Minchin, had a day off on Monday due to the bank holiday.

Earlier in the programme, the journalist gave brief details to co-presenter Sally about what he got up to over the weekend and expressed that he had a bit too much sun and ate a lot meat.

Once Carol had finished her weather segment, Dan said: “It looks beautiful there today, Carol. We’ll see you a bit later on. We’ll see you at about 10 past…what time is it? Seven.”

Feeling rather confused Dan said: “It’s bank holiday, my head’s all over the place.”

Sally replied: “Is it Monday in your head?”

“I’ve got a few meat sweats, I’ll be honest with you. I over-meated,” Dan confessed.

The presenter went on to give details of the meat he had eaten and the celebrations that took place over his weekend.

But broadcaster Sally couldn’t help but mention that he also got a little bit sunburnt too.

“And a little bit of sunburn?” Sally questioned.

Dan replied: “I mean, who doesn’t like sunburn and meat sweats on the back of a bank holiday?”

However Sally shut this down too and remarked: “Shall we leave it there, Dan?”

“Let the viewers enjoy their breakfast.”

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC.
