Dan Walker speaks out after Strictly exit as Sally Nugent gets emotional on air

Dan Walker has spoken out since being eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing, and his co-star Sally Nugent got rather emotional on air.

The BBC presenter returned to his regular hosting spot on BBC Breakfast on Monday (December 6) – and it was the first time since leaving Strictly.

Dan and his professional dance partner Nadiya Bychkova were knocked out the BBC Ballroom after losing the dance-off against AJ Odudu and Kai Widdrington.

To celebrate his return to the red sofa, Dan’s co-star Sally wanted to show him a special montage of his Strictly performances, and was left on the verge of tears.

After watching the clip of Dan’s dancing, Sally admitted: “I had a lip wobble!”

Dan seemed to be feeling the nostalgia already as he replied: “It’s all coming back now…”

Discussing his feelings on leaving Strictly, Dan said: “I’m not sad that it’s over. I’ll miss not going training with Nadiya today and learning a new dance and getting ready for the semi-final beacuse that’s been the rhythm of my week for the last three months, bizarrely.

“But I’m just happy that it happened in the first place, so that’s the way I’m looking at it.”

Sally was full of praise for her colleague as she replied: “What makes me really proud is you have continued.

“You’ve worked here, you don’t live in London, you’ve got three kids, lots of other demands, three jobs, a dog to walk every day, lots of people to look after…

“And you’ve still managed to fit all of this in which is incredible.”

BBC weather expert Carol Kirkwood also praised Dan for his newfound dancing skills, and she told him he’d gone from being a “dad dancer” to “Fred Astaire” during his weeks of dance training.

Dan’s time on Strictly came to an end on Sunday (December 5) after the pair danced the Tango to Santa Maria by Gotan Project – where they earned 31 points by the judges.

Speaking about his bond with Nadiya, Dan previously said: “She makes me laugh and I think she’s learned a lot from me and I’ve learned a lot from her.

“I know I’m not the best dancer in the world, but what she’s taught me is that I can actually dance and just go out there and have the best possible time with a big smile on my face.”
