Dancing on Ice's Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill 'feel sad' for Rufus Hound

Rufus Hound had been tipped for good things on ITV’sDancing On Ice but sadly it “wasn’t to be” said judged Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

The award winning professional figure-skaters explained that they both felt incredibly sad for the comedian who had received the new Golden Ticke following his first ever performance.

Sadly the actor was unable to utilise his fast tracking award after coming into contact with someone who had contracted Covid-19.

After being forced to isolate for 10 days, Rufus later tested positive himself, forcing him to forfeit the competition.

During a roundtable interview, Chris and Jayne expressed that they were gutted for the star but felt it was the right thing given he would have missed a significant amount of time.

Jayne said: “Awwww we feel sad for him,” before Chris interjected: “It wasn’t fair to him to miss another week of the competition.

“I can image that he is gutted about it and we can empathise with that.”

When asked about Rufus’s potential in the skating competition, Jayne was coy with her reply but added that it was a shame because he “had his own style.”

Speaking with her professional skating hat on, Jayne said: “Both Chris and I were both surprised at how good he had got from where he’d started.

“His skating still needed a lot of work.”

Matt Richardson is due to make his ice skating debut this Sunday

She went on: “Also what he had was his own style of performance, it was a very clever performance so we would have liked to have seen the progress from there with the skating but I guess it wasn’t to be.”

Rufus expressed his thoughts on the matter over on his official Twitter page.

Announcing to his 1million followers: “I will no longer be participating in @dancingonice.

“COVID is – as I’m sure we’re all well aware – a b*****d and sadly the world isn’t short of those.”

Soon after the word began to spread it was confirmed that Matt Richardson, 29, would be stepping in for the comedian.

The former Xtra Factor presenter explained on Lorraine that he had already ended up with a black eye and concussion.

Matthew will replace Rufus this weekend alongside pro-skater Vicky Ogden.

Dancing on Ice airs Sunday’s on ITV.
