I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star Danny Miller says he’ll “spend rest of his life making it up to son” for leaving him to appear on the ITV game show.
The newly crowned King of the Castle, who beat Simon Gregson and Frankie Bridge to win, revealed he left his fiancé and newborn son to build a better future for his family and “couldn’t afford to walk away” from the money.
He said of his time on the show: “I’ve done that, and it’s meant that I’ve got the best possible outcome by winning and it makes it all worthwhile for not quitting.
“But I never shy away from it that I couldn’t afford to walk away from it. I was doing it for Albert’s future. It’s just bonkers that I won. It feels crazy, but a really good, crazy positive.”
He also opened up about the emotional reunion with his family and how he plans to make up for the time he lost with his son.
“It’s just going to be us three and I can’t wait. I’ve been hugging Steph and I’ll give her more big kisses, and then I’ll hold Albert for what will feel like an eternity and make up to him what I’ve just lost in three and a half weeks because he’s changed massively,” he told The Mirror.
“It is fortunate that he doesn’t know what has happened in the last few weeks but unfortunately for me, I’ve missed him so much. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to him,” he added.
Winner Danny recently broke down in tears as he was surprised by his fiancée Steph Jones and their son on Monday’s episode of Lorraine, when they appeared on-screen via video link for a virtual reunion.
The star has since taken to Instagram to share a heart warming photograph softly kissing the seven-week-old on his cheek after he was reunited with his tiny baby in-person.
The former Emmerdale star, who has quit the ITV soap after 13 years, recently hit back at people who claimed it was “out of order” for him to be leaving his fiancée and newborn Albert to take part in the show.
He said: “Everyone is going to have their own opinion. The way I looked at it is, I made the decision once we found out we were naturally pregnant.
“This is three weeks of my life and Albert isn’t really going to remember me being there or not. Steph is doing amazing with breastfeeding, she’s an amazing mum. It gave me even more confidence to want to go to the Castle and provide for the family.”
