BBC’s The One Show was buzzing with Brits delighted to be back inside their favourite pubs – as easing lockdown restrictions on Monday (17 May) meant they could enjoy their pints indoors.
After weeks of braving the British rain and cold, people across the UK are now able to sit indoors to eat and drink as Coronavirus restrictions have now lifted.
BBC One presenter Owain Wyn Evans spoke to lots of happy pub-goers in Manchester who couldn’t wait to be be back inside their favourite local bars and restaurants.
Chatting to Owain, one happy pub-goer said: “I’m feeling fantastic. The pubs are open and I’m just going to enjoy myself, have a meal and have a few pints”.
A second bar-lover was laughing as she told the One Show presenter: “It’s so exciting. I was literally here [at the bar] at 9am like ‘I’m ready’.”
One couple enjoying their coffees was pleased to be back indoors after so long, and said: “We’ve been outside, we’ve been taking takeaways for weeks, months, and now we can eat and drink inside again. It’s fabulous”.
When asked if they were feeling anxious at all about being back inside, they said: “It’s very spacious, not cramped.”
“By and large people have learnt lessons from the lockdown… people are actually being very sensible”.
Another eager group said to the presenter: “Wherever is open, we’re going in”.
And one lady in the group admitted she feels “A little bit anxious but excited at the same time” to be back indoors.
Presenter Owain also spoke to two business owners – couple Keira and her wife Amy – who said their day has been “incredible”.
Owner Keira said: “This morning has been incredible. It felt like our wedding day again.”
Amy then added: “I literally woke up and said Keira got the same butterfly nerves as I did when we were walking down the aisle.”
Then Owain, walking around a busy Manchester watching the pleased Brits, said: “Lots of people out and about. Some people still dining al fresco. I may add, but lots of people going inside!”
