Demi Lovato once sang to a ghost to help it overcome “trauma” – and got a standing ovation.
The US singer – who came out as non-binary earlier this year – has been trying to find some answers about extra-terrestrial and supernatural life in the TV show Unidentified With Demi Lovato.
A clip shared online by Peacock TV showed Demi in a supposedly haunted property in a ghost town in Arizona, where they had come across a spirit who’d had some sort of past trauma with men.
Demi, their friend Matthew Scott and paranormal investigator Chris Smith, had set up an EMF detector, which is a device that apparently makes a noise when some sort of communication is made with the other side.
The clip showed the 29-year-old former Disney star asking the room if there had been any UFOs or “star people” there and their jaw dropped as the detector started to buzz and emitted a high-pitched noise.
The “spirit” (who the group referred to as Carmen), soon clammed up and the trio realised she might speak again if they let Demi have some time alone with her.
Matthew and Chris stepped into another room, and the singer then asked: “Did you not want to say anything else because the boys were in here?”
The device buzzes again and they replied: “I think… mmm, oh, I get that a lot.”
Turning to their friends, Demi said: “OK, she has trauma. And that’s why she doesn’t like men.”
“I have trauma too so I feel you and I get it,” they added.
Demi then asked if Carmen liked to sing and when the device started to rumble, Matthew and Chris suggested Demi performed one of their songs.
The singer was a little reluctant at first but then launched into a stirring rendition of their mega hit Skyscraper.
The song evidently struck the right note with Carmen as the EMF machine started up a long, loud buzz as soon as Demi finished.
The star was clearly thrilled with the response.
“Cool!” they exclaimed. “Wow! That is so cool!
“That is the coolest standing ovation I have ever had.”
