Dragons’ Den viewers were faced with emotional scenes on Thursday evening, when one entrepreneur broke down in tears over the heartbreaking death of her brother.
Sharon Keegan appeared in the Den, pitching to earn investments for her athleisure business Peachy Lean, hoping for £100,000 for an 11% share.
The businesswoman revealed she was met by an overwhelming surge in demand for her products during the lockdown, but the recent death of her brother left her struggling to cope.
Sharon explained her brother had died in March of last year, passing away just days before the lockdown began.
Pitching to Dragons Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Touker Souleyman, Tej Lalvani and Sara Davies, Sharon spoke candidly about the surge in her business, as well as her own emotional struggle.
Sharon explained she didn’t have enough stock to keep up with demand during the lockdown, with a number of customers hoping to purchase her “confidence in the form of spandex and nylon”.
“The reason for that was March was a very difficult time for me,” she said.
“My brother died two days before lockdown. He was 35.”
Addressing the heartbreaking incident, Sharon grew tearful, as the Dragons jumped in with words of encouragement and compassion.
Peter said; “Well it’s remarkable, you’ve grown the business and you’ve gone from strength to strength and that’s great.”
Tej agreed: “I’d imagine he’d be incredibly proud.”
“He’s here with me today,” Sharon replied.
Touched by her pitch, the Dragons were equally impressed by Sharon’s business acumen, with Sara and Tej making offers after some deliberation.
