EastEnders' Dean Gaffney wants tips from Danny Dyer as he becomes grandad at 43

EastEnders icon Dean Gaffney, 43, was thrilled to announce the birth of his granddaughter Mimi earlier this week.

His daughter Chloe, 24, and her partner Declan welcomed the little one much to the delight of doting new grandfather Dean.

However, it doesn’t seem as though Dean will be readily available to help out with changing nappies.

He told The Sun on Sunday: “Anybody who saw me doing the Bushtucker trials on I’m A Celebrity knows I have the world’s worst gag reflex, so unless I’ve got a peg on my nose I’ll be leaving that to her mum and dad.”

He also opened up about the source of knowledge when it comes to getting to know his way around the new role.

It looks like he’ll be getting some advice from fellow new granddad, Danny Dyer, who currently plays Queen Vic landlord, Mick Carter, in the BBC One soap.

His daughter Dani Dyer gave birth to her son Santiago back in January and has been keeping fans updated with her journey into motherhood.

Dean explained: “I’m so proud. Lots of my mates are becoming dads, but I’m a grandad at the same age.

“The only person I know who’s in the same boat as me is Danny Dyer, who has a grandchild at 43.

He said: “I’ll be calling him for tips. We could do grandaddy day care together.”

Dean revealed the news to his Instagram followers on Tuesday as he posted an adorable snap with the new born.

Using the caption to confirm the news, he said: ”Welcome to this crazy world, my beautiful granddaughter Mimi.

“I am very happy to announce I am a GRANDAD.

He continued: “I can’t believe my baby is now a mother, proud is an understatement. Chloe and Declan you’re going to be amazing parents. Baby Mimi, born: 07.07.2021.. 7 pound 14oz.

Dean went on to make light of the fact he was a slightly younger grandfather.

He teased: “Just to thank everyone in advance, I know I don’t look old enough to be a father let alone a grandfather!”

The Robbie Jackson actor was dismissed from the soap back in 2019 after asking a woman he was speaking to online for racy photos.

But he hinted he would love to make a return one day and spoke about his swift exit, adding to the publication: “It wasn’t, ‘Pack your bag, you’re gone’. What was nice, and I had a bit of a tear in my eye, is they said, ‘We actually love you here, we do love the character, we love Dean Gaffney, but our hands are forced at the moment.

“There is a story out there and it’s not necessarily favourable for us as a show and you’ve just got to sort your head out. We want you back’.

“I love the show and what it stands for. I love my character Robbie, I love the way they write it for me.
