EastEnders Jake Wood's Instagram hacked after imposter faked fan messages

EastEnders actor Jake Wood’s Instagram account was reportedly hacked just weeks after he warned fans of a “cretin” who was pretending to be him online.

The soap star, who plays Max Branning on the BBC programme, told fans about the fake account two weeks ago, as the imposter had been contacting fans claiming to be him.

Now it seems his official Instagram account has been hacked as it cannot be seen on social media.

Jake’s Instagram handle can still be searched on Google, but when fans click on his page, a message appears saying his account “isn’t available”.

A representative for the actor reportedly confirmed to MailOnline he was hacked on Tuesday and his team are “in the process” of regaining access.

The actor, who is leaving EastEnders later this year, took to social media several weeks ago to warn fans about a fake account pretending to be him.

He urged his fans to report and block the “cretin” imposter who was scamming his followers and attempting to get in touch with them online.

Jake wrote: “It has come to my attention that this cretin @mr_jakewood is messaging a lot of my followers pretending to be me. Please report & block. Thanks (sic).”

The Max Branning star’s real account was verified and had around 135,000 followers, while the fake account had just one follower.

The account was taken down after furious fans left comments on the imposter’s posts.

One fan typed: “There’s only one Jake Wood”.

While another added: “Surely if you had any common sense you would know that it isn’t you.”

Jake revealed he was leaving EastEnders last year after playing Max Branning on the show for over a decade.

He confirmed the news in September 2020 as he said: “I’ve had 15 wonderful years at EastEnders and have made some truly great friends.

“I’ll, of course, miss everyone there but I’m grateful they have left the door open for Max and I’m excited to see what the next chapter holds.”
