EastEnders' Lacey Turner confirms return as Stacey Slater with 'big storyline'

Lacey Turner is set to return to EastEnders.

The actress is reprising her role as Stacey Slater on the soap after taking maternity leave.

Show favourite Lacey plans to balance her career with motherhood.

She said: “I’m really lucky because although with a big storyline you can be working like any full-time job, there are a lot of times when I’m not needed, so it works out perfectly.

“I also live not too far away from the studios so that always makes things easier. I can pop home between filming. I’m always home for bath and bedtime, too.”

EastEnders bosses are planning a sensational return for Lacey but details about her new storylines are being kept under wraps.

Lacey’s partner Matt Kay will be looking after their new son Trilby, who was born in February, while she’s on set.

She added: “I like that Trilby and Matt will get to be together while I’m in work as I can just concentrate on that and not have to worry about a thing.

“It’s a privileged position to be in. I’m very lucky.”

Lacey is one of the longest-serving stars on EastEnders after first joining in 2004.

The TV star appeared on Loose Women in March this year and explained why she returned to the Albert Square set a mere five days after giving birth.

“It was a quick birth. I didn’t really get a chance to sweat.”

Because Trilby was taken away to be cared for by hospital staff, Lacey added that she managed to get “a whole night’s sleep” after her labour.

So she felt well enough to make a speedy return to EastEnders shortly after the birth.

“I had three scenes left to shoot, so after five days I rang them and said don’t panic, I’ll do a couple of mornings.

“I didn’t want to forget what Stacey was supposed to be doing!” she said.

“I still can’t believe I have a boy. With the second one you’re so laid back – I hadn’t even packed a hospital bag.”

Lacey said her daughter Dusty is “the best babysitter” she’s ever had.

“It has its hard moments,” she admitted. “I miss my dear old friend sleep.

Lacey said she got her son’s unusual name from a girl she knew once, whose sister was called Trilby Fox.

“I always thought it was such a cool name, and I quite liked it for a boy, so I’ve had it in my head for a really long time!” she previously told OK! Magazine.

EastEnders airs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday on BBC One
