Eminem adopted third daughter Whitney after heart-wrenching start in life

Eminem was the original 90s music bad boy, telling anyone who would listen about those in the world he hated – and often what he wanted to do to them.

Slim Shady had no fear in pushing things to the very limit.

It almost seemed that the bleached blonde young hell-raiser built his brand thriving off other’s outrage.

His lyrics regularly attacked certain minority groups and he seemed to be completely unfazed when it came to offending anyone.

His hard-man exterior wasn’t crumbling for anyone. Then things changed.

Some 20 years on Marshall Bruce Mathers III is a very, very different human being.

Almost totally gone is his fiendish alter ego, yet while not quite apologetic for his approach in years gone by, the angry and aggressive young star has been replaced by a golden-hearted family man.

Those brought up on his music will of course be familiar with Eminem’s daughter Hailie.

But he has two other girls as well, and the youngest is Whitney, 18, who he adopted.

He took her in when he reconciled his relationship with his on-off partner Kimberly and then took it upon himself to rescue her.

The high school sweethearts’ history is problematic to say the least but he knew there was something that needed taking care of.

Whitney’s childhood was as turbulent as her adopted fathers’.

Her mum reportedly had drug issues, which put a serious strain on their home life as money quickly dried up with some well-documented legal troubles adding to the complications.

Whitney had a problematic childhood

Whitney’s biological dad Eric Hartter – a professional tattoo artist – was a dark character who had various run-ins with the law.

He has spent a lot of his life behind the bars and despite various promises to reform his character, Eric has found himself in and out of the prison system.

The little girl needed a fresh start, with both her troubled parents unable to raise her.

That’s where Slim came in.

Whitney took the last name Mathers when she was legally adopted by Eminem in 2005.

Since that moment, she hasn’t looked back and remains a big part of the family, and she reportedly enjoys a strong relationship with sisters Alaina Marie and Hailie Jade.

Described by her father as a “sweet and funny girl”, she is now 18 and last year came out as bisexual, which she spoke about on Instagram.

Living in the family’s Michigan home, life couldn’t be much better as she will soon be graduating from high school.

Much changed Eminem simply didn’t want another child to fall into the system, like he did when he was a youngster.

His bitter experience of feeling unloved, unwanted and uncared for fuelled his desire to make sure Whitney’s life would be repaired.

He has sung about her, too.

Whitney has been mentioned in songs like Going Through Changes.

The lyrics read: “Hailie, this one is for you, Whitney and Alaina, too.

“I still love your mother that will never change.

“Think about her every day we just could never get it together.”

Of course, Eminem adopted Amanda Marie – known as Alaina – in 2002 as well.

She is the daughter of his then-wife Kim’s twin sister Dawn Scott, and with her father not on the scene he was quick to add to the family.

She was raised by Kim and Eminem as they share the shared custody of their children.
