Former Emmerdale director Lee Salisbury has revealed a misbehaving soap star was written out of the soap halfway through a major storyline due to their behaviour.
Lee worked on the show from between 2006 to 2015 and now hosts Soap From The Box, a weekly podcast series with the best-known faces from the soap world.
When asked if there were any incidents where people were late or written out, Lee divulged that one person did get written out for their bad attitude.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: “There was a person in Emmerdale who wasn’t really behaving and they did write this person out halfway through a storyline.
“I was there for that, but it was all dealt with very well and it proved to everyone else that you can’t get away with anything.
“In a soap, there is no one star, as the soap is the star. It’s not like a movie with Julia Roberts!”
But he did add these occurrences were rare, with stars who behaved badly being “sorted out”.
“But on all of the soaps, nothing is put up with. I was always so thankful that if anyone was misbehaving, they would get called in and it would be sorted out. That meant there wasn’t anything really bad that happened.”
He also explained that issues do crop up on soaps when an actor does not show up to set, and if it happens during a big storyline it’s a “nightmare”.

“It’s like a normal workplace – things happen. Soaps are scheduled so strictly and have to run like clockwork, so if someone’s ill or has had an accident, it can cause massive problems.”
He added that even the weather causes big problems with filming.
“Even the weather can be an issue. One of the tricks most soaps do is film the outside scenes first, so you can then replicate that character’s hair inside, if it’s been raining,” he explained.
“There’s a very funny story on the podcast where Sid Owen filmed an outside scene for EastEnders walking into one of the buildings. Then he went on holiday, came back and walked into the door ten shades darker!”
