Emmerdale viewers baffled by 'unrecognisable' Ben as Aaron's ex-flame returns

Emmerdale viewers were left baffled as Aaron’s former flame Ben reappeared in the village after an unexplained absence.

Ben looked set for a romance with Aaron after his husband Robert was locked up for 14 years.

The pair had been classmates, but Aaron had actually been bullying Ben at school for years.

And now Ben has returned to the Dales, and has been the subject of Victoria’s matchmaking skills as she tried to set him up with Ethan – who is finally looking for love after giving up on the search for his mum.

But viewers were left so baffled by his reappearance that they took to social media to air their confusion.

“I didn’t even recognise Ben!” one wrote, while another added: “LOL – what’s the chances of that happening, Ben looking for luv and so is Ben 20 seconds later.”

Someone else penned: “Ben has been away for so long, it seems strange that he’s back!”

“Ben needs a haircut!” someone else chimed.

Ethan was quick to brush off Victoria’s attempts at matchmaking, as he said Ben was “too outdoorsy” – but viewers were still convinced the couple could make it work.

“I’m already predicting Ethan and Ben will get together!” someone posted.

Fans didn’t recognise Ben as he made his return

“Vic trying to get Et and Ben together? #Emmerdale,” another penned.

While a third gushed: “Ben/Ethan and Mack/Aaron would actually work so well!!”

“I hope they do a storyline with Ben & Ethan. Think they’d be more interesting than Aaron,” said another social media user.

Simon Lennon, who plays Ben, was originally brought in as a love interest for Aaron, but their relationship failed to get off the ground.

Emmerdale isn’t the first time the actor has worked alongside Danny Miller, who plays Aaron – he recently starred in the short film PACE, directed by Danny himself.

He played DC Felton in the crime drama.

And he’s no stranger to Soapland – he used to date Coronation Street’s Sair Khan, who plays Alya Nazir on the cobbles.

The pair are expecting a baby together, sharing their happy news with OK! Magazine.

“We all show off our best moments on socials, never do we share the worst moments. But this girl [Steph] has shared and carried some of the lowest points of my life over the last few months,” he admitted over his darker moments.
