Eurovision organisers shut down rumours Lady Gaga will make interval appearance

Eurovision organisers have shut down rumours that Lady Gaga will make a special guest appearance at the 2021 song contest.

Twitter was in a frenzy last weekend as rumours began to flood the social media site that the international pop legend would perform during the grand final’s interval.

Keen-eyed fans locked onto a key date on the Rain On Me singer’s tour schedule on Google – with Lady Gaga allegedly scheduled to perform at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Saturday, May 22.

It happens to be the same date as the Eurovision 2021 grand final.

Fans immediately flocked to Twitter to share their theories, with one penning: “According to Gaga’s Google page, #LadyGaga will perform at the #Eurovision 2021 on the 22nd May,” alongside a screenshot of the Google results.

Another wrote: “If @ladygaga will really be in ESC 2021, this year’s ESC will be lit!”

Someone even asked the account Rotterdam Info whether the “structured data” on their website “randomly revealed” that she would be performing at this year’s contest.

But it actually appears to be down to a rescheduling error for her Chromatica Ball tour, and faulty information auto-generated by Google on its search results.

And the song contest’s Executive Producer Sietse Bakker left fans’ hearts plummeting, as one fan asked on Twitter: “Lady Gaga? #Eurovision2021”.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted a tour date which aligned with the contest finale

Sietse responded: “Not that we know of.”

Fans aren’t being swayed that easily, with some suggesting that organisers might be trying to keep her performance on the down-low as a “surprise”.

But this isn’t the first time Gaga has sparked rumours of an ESC appearance; back in 2017, well-known Ukrainian musical figure Igor Tarnopolsky claimed he was informed about the possibility of the Poker Face singer making an appearance.

As manager of Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala, Igor said he heard the news directly from Eurovision 2017 producer Stuart Barlow.

But her appearance never came to fruition, with Eurovision 2004 act Ruslana chosen as the grand final interval act in her place.

This year’s interval is already set to be full of fresh European talent, with former Eurovision winners appearing in the “Rock the Roof” segment.

The rooftops of Rotterdam will be incorporated in the immersive performance, with the whole city becoming a stage.
