Explosive Oprah tell-alls – Meghan and Harry, Whitney confession and Kim K's sex tape

Oprah Winfrey is the queen of talk show interviews and is soon set to talk to another big name, Adele, as part of a two-hour special featuring performances from the singer.

Ahead of the release of Adele’s album 30, including new single Easy on Me, the programme will be broadcast on CBS on November 14.

It is expected that this will again be an interview unlike any other, something that Oprah is known famously for.

Having spoken candidly with some of the world’s biggest stars including Whitney Houston, Ellen Degeneres and of course, the famous Meghan Markle and Prince Harry interview, The Daily Star looks back on some of the talk show host’s most iconic interviews.

Meghan and Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s bombshell Oprah interview left viewers around the world shocked by revelations about the Royal Family in their two hour interview.

Aired earlier this year in April 2021, Meghan spoke about life in the Royal Family, along with shocking statements about allegations of racism towards her son Archie from members of the family, as she said “there were concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born”.

Meghan and Harry refused to name the person, as she said: “That would be very damaging to them,” she said.

Harry added: “That conversation, I am never going to share. At the time, it was awkward, I was a bit shocked.”

The couple also spoke about their new life in California, after separating from their royal duties.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian’s Oprah interview has been watched a staggering four million times since it was aired in 2012.

During the interview, Kim revealed all about her leaked sex tape with her former partner, along with her 72 day marriage to former NBA player Kris Humphries.

She also shared a poignant moment about how the show Keeping up with the Kardashians brought her and the family closer, following her dad’s death three years before the show first aired.

Kim told Oprah: “I didn’t want to see them because they reminded me too much of my dad.

“I’m thankful for the show making me closer to my family.”

Mike Tyson

Mike Tyson talked candidly about his career and life with Oprah

One of the most famous, and most watched Oprah interviews of all time was Mike Tyson’s appearance in 2009.

Heart breaking and moving, Mike Tyson opened up about topics including the death of his daughter, spending time in jail and his career.

He also spoke about the famous boxing match with Evander Holyfield, where he bit part of Holyfield’s earlobe off, in an interview that has been watched nearly 10 million times.

Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston’s interview with Oprah was one of the star’s last before her death in 2012.

It was also one of the most revealing interviews, with Whitney talking to Oprah about topics such as drug addiction, going into rehab and her relationship with pop singer Bobby Brown.

Oprah had previously met Whitney Houston and described her as “the voice”, talking about the singer’s incredible musical talent.

However in a heart breaking moment, Whitney admitted that having to live up to the persona of being an entertainer constantly was “too much…too much to try to live up to. Too much to try to be, you know? And I wanted out at some point.”

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise’s Oprah interview sofa moment is one of the most famous

If there’s one thing that Tom Cruise’s 2005 interview with Oprah is remembered for, it’s that iconic moment where he jumped up and down on the sofa declaring his love for girlfriend at the time Katie Holmes.

He then jumped off the sofa saying, “I’m in love!”

They got married one year later in 2006, and had one daughter, Suri, but the couple then later divorced in 2012.

Sarah Ferguson

Long before Meghan and Harry’s interview, another royal appeared in the interviewing chair – Sarah Ferguson.

Fergie’s 1996 interview was full of revelations – from her friendship with Princess Diana, to being hounded by the press at a time when she was in the media eye following the publication of an undercover video where she talks about giving access to her husband at the time, Prince Andrew.

She also revealed what life was like as a Duchess, cementing it as one of Oprah’s must see interviews.

Sarah said: “[You realise] you married a man, you fell in love and then you’ve got to come to terms with the fairy tale. It’s not a fairy tale, it’s real life in there or – they [the royals] think it’s real life in there.”

Ellen DeGeneres

In Oprah’s 1997 interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the TV host came out publicly as gay and spoke openly about her sexuality.

The interview is hailed as a historic tv moment in the LGBTQ+ community, and Oprah starred in the Ellen show, when Ellen’s character also came out as gay.

Dava Saval, an Executive Producer for the Ellen Show recalled to Vanity Fair about the moment that Oprah watched the scenes back for the first time.

She said: “She started to cry. The tears just flowed down her cheeks, and she said, ‘I’m so proud to be a part of this. I’m so proud.”
