Romy Walthall, known for her roles in classic films Face/Off and House Of Usher, has died aged 57 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.
The actress died in Los Angeles on May 19, her son, actor and director Morgan Krantz, confirmed in a statement shared with Variety.
Her daughter, Isabella, shared a tribute to her mum on Instagram, writing: “I’ve resigned myself to the fact that there will never be any appropriate combination of earthly words to accurately describe my mother. You just had to be there to get it.
“She was everything at once. She was my first love. She was the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen and she was wicked and fun and light and dark and she possessed the kind of magic that you truly just don’t see.
“I will always always always love you ferociously.”
Born in Texas, Walthall’s career launched when she won the Mother/Daughter USA pageant in 1980.
Launching her modelling career, she was signed to the elite agency Ford Models and began touring Europe for shoots, before discovering a passion for theatrics.
Later, she returned to Los Angeles where she established herself as an actress, adopting the stage name Romy Windsor.
Her big break came when she was cast in Thief of Hearts in 1984, later landing a role in A Bunny’s Tale, which was inspired by Gloria Steinem’s undercover investigation of working conditions of the Playboy Bunnies.
1989 saw Walthall star opposite Oliver Reed in The House of Usher, which sees an engaged couple get trapped inside a disturbing house of horrors.
In the 90s, she played John Travolta’s secretary Kimberly in the cult classic Face/Off, which raked in millions in the US box office.
Walthall also enjoyed success on the small screen, appearing in shows like The X-Files, Love Boat: The Next Wave and Man of the People.
Her final credit came in 2011 with an appearance in 0s & 1s alongside her son Morgan, who followed in her footsteps as an actor.
She is survived by her mother, sister and three children, Morgan, Isabella and Theodore.
