First Dates turns awkward as couple argue about dead rabbits over dinner

First Dates took a heated turn when a couple started arguing about dead animals over dinner.

The Channel 4 dating show returned to screens with its Christmas special on Wednesday (December 22) – and a fresh batch of singletons looking for love in the winter months.

The festive episode saw the famous First Dates restaurant decorated with Christmas decorations – from lush lights and Christmas trees to wrapped presents – not to forget the mistletoe.

Hunky French host Fred Sirieix was back to greet the daters as they entered the restaurant – and fan favourite Merlin was even dressed for the occasion in a red Santa Claus hat.

Sam told his date that he knew somebody with a snake that ate dead rabbits

However, things grew awkward for one couple when handsome bachelor Sam started talking about a snake that eats dead animals during dinner.

Electrician Sam had been set up with recruitment consultant Macy, and the pair seemed to be getting on well at first.

The date soon turned chaotic when Sam brought up the topic of rabbit-eating snakes, and it led to Macy telling him off in front of the cameras.

Sam said:” I’ve got a very good fact. A fella I used to work with, he’s right into reptiles and stuff like that.

Macy wasn’t impressed with Sam’s fact

“He’s got a snake that’s about this fat…”, and he gestured with his hand to paint a picture of how large the snake was.

Unfortunately, Macy looked rather disgusted with the topic.

Sam continued: “It must be about ten foot long. Because it’s a snake it has to eat other animals.”

Macy then cut in to tell him off, saying: “We should not be discussing this right now.”

The consultant told her date that they shouldn’t be discussing dead rabbits over dinner

Sam started giggling as she continued: “Little baby mice being thrown…”

The tradesman teased her: “Bigger than a mouse…”

Macy asked: “A rat?”, but Sam corrected her: “Bigger than a rat.”

The consultant looked worried as she asked: “A bunny?” and Sam confirmed it before asking: “Don’t you find that cool?”

The pair decided not to see each other again

Macy fumed: “No, I do not! A baby bunny being swallowed whole by a snake?”

They pair patched things up though, but love wasn’t on the cards.

However, panto actor John and his date – maternity ward worker Scott – hit it off in the episode.

At the end of the show, it was revealed that the two had been pursuing romance after the show – and had even taken a trip to Berlin together.
