Gemma Atkinson lost trust in former Hollyoaks co-star after story leak threat

Gemma Atkinson has revealed she lost trust in a former Hollyoaks star after her colleague was axed from the Channel 4 show.

Strictly Come Dancing star Gemma played character Lisa Hunter on the hit soap from 2001-2005.

And she has since gone on to have a successful career, with roles in Casualty, The Bill, Waterloo Road and Emmerdale.

But the 36-year-old actress, has detailed the moment when a former Hollyoaks colleague threatened to sell stories about her and the cast after their contract was not renewed.

Speaking on Steph’s Packed Lunch, Gemma admitted: “For me personally, I always think that the best revenge is just moving on and showing people how happy you are, whether it’s a relationship, or work.

“I’ve been in a situation when I did Hollyoaks – so I’m going back 17, 18 years ago – there was a certain cast member who was asked to leave, and they did,” revealed Gemma.

“[However] we found out through the powers that be in the studios that said cast member was going to sell stories on the cast and what happened and what went on, because obviously they were bitter about not having their contract renewed.”

“At the time we were like, ‘Why would you collectively come after all of us when it’s one person who’s asked you to go?’” reflected Gemma.

“It turned out they didn’t do it but to this day now, when I bump into them and they say, ‘How’s such a body, what have you been up to?’ I still think, ‘Do you really think I want to tell you anything now?'”(sic) she added.

“That trust has gone completely. Like I say, for me, I just go on quietly, but it does depend on the situation of how close you were and what dirty was done.”

Gemma and Gorka got engaged in February having met on the 2017 Strictly series.

And the Hits Radio host has revealed the happy couple will be getting married abroad.

Bury-born Gemma admitted: “We’re obviously not going to do it this year given everything that is going on, the only thing we have agreed on so far is that we are going to do it abroad.

Gemma will marry Gorka abroad to avoid awkward language barrier

“Gorka wants his family to be able to order drinks at the bar and understand the waiters.

“His family don’t speak English and my family don’t speak Spanish, so we’ve said that we’ll meet halfway.

“That’s all we’ve agreed on. Not this year, but the year after – if I can tolerate him for that long obviously.”
