Gemma Collins set to help Arg with weight loss after her 40th birthday surprise

Gemma Collins is said to have ‘stepped in to help’ her ex-boyfriend James Argent with his weight loss after he revealed his health fears.

Arg, 33, recently surprised his Gemma for her 40th birthday as he spoiled her with a huge balloon display to celebrate on Sunday.

During her lockdown birthday bash, Gemma publicly thanked Arg for the gift as she gushed: “Thank you Arg for the lovely balloons”.

The reality stars, who both starred in The Only Way Is Essex, have shared an on/off romance for years.

It seems Gemma is lending her support to Arg after he revealed he has an eating disorder and now weighs 26stone, Heat magazine reports.

A source told the publication: “Gem is terrified of losing anyone close to her right now. With her father so unwell then Arg saying he could die because of his weight, it has pushed her over the edge.

“She will always love Arg and wants to help him as much as she can, even though they’ve had such a rocky relationship and are no longer officially together.”

Gemma, whose dad Alan has returned home after being hospitalised with coronavirus, has reportedly attempted to help Arg by asking mutual friends, including Mark Wright, to reach out to him.

Arg opened up about his health concerns during a recent television appearance on ITV’s Loose Women.

He explained: “It is difficult because it a huge operation, it is a very intense and serious one.

“It is nothing to be taken lightly but I know if I really work hard, like I have done many many times before, I can get the weight off but it is maintaining it.”

Arg continued: “I feel that once I have my weight sorted then the sky is the limit for me.

“Once I tackle this then I have got a real positive future ahead of me.”

Arg opened up about his decision to undergo surgery for a gastric band, hoping to lose 12 stone in the coming months.

In an interview with The Sun, Arg said: “Nobody is trying to stop me from having it done. Everyone knows it’s the only way I can lose weight.”

The star has also admitted he struggled with the lack of a routine during the lockdown.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, James had been committed to going to the gym and practising boxing, but the restrictions meant he turned to food for comfort.
