Gino D'Acampo recounts break-up with wife and 'first love' Jessica Morrison

TV chef Gino D’Acampo has revealed he once broke up with his wife of 19 years.

The star recounted the break up with Jessica Stellina Morrison, who he calls his “first love”, in his new show Gino’s Italian Family Adventures.

The pair married in 2002 after first meeting when Gino was just 18. The star worked at Sylvester Stallone’s Mambo King restaurant in Marbella at the time, and quickly became teenage sweethearts with his wife.

The pair broke up briefly when they were both still young but have said that their separation made their relationship stronger.

D’Acampo opted for a lifestyle change upon release after a two-year stint in jail following an expensive burglary where Gino was traced to having stolen £4,000 worth of guitars, a platinum record along with cash and jewellery.

He said: “I was a boy, so I decided to get married and then I will be a man.”

Morrison is D’Acampo’s first love. She is half-Italian, half-English descent and they have three children together.

D’Acampo said: “I clean her car every week. I charge her toothbrush every time the battery is low, and I always bring her a bottle of cold water just in case she’s thirsty at night.

“My wife is a clever woman, she knows when to say something.”

The couple broke up briefly when they were still both young, but quickly recoupled and moved to the UK in 1995.

D’Acampo previously told the Daily Star the secret to his 19-year “traditional marriage”, explaining: “We allow each other to have our own lives, that means going on holiday with our friends.

“My wife goes for dinner with male friends and I go for dinner with female friends or business friends. We are very relaxed.”

The 45-year-old TV star has previously told the press how he could not “care less” if Morrison was to have dinner with an ex-boyfriend because he just wants her to be happy. Morrison is also said to “love” that D’Acampo works with over 700 women across his restaurants.

Speaking about his wife, the chef has said: “She doesn’t get jealous.

“She understands that if you want to be unfaithful, you’ll do it anyway. It’s a matter of trust.”

Gino’s Italian Family Adventures will air seven episodes on ITV and ITV Hub.
