GMB fans cringe as Alex Beresford gets caught out during chat with acting legend

Alex Beresford was left red-faced during a live interview on Friday’s Good Morning Britain with One Foot In The Grave actor Richard Wilson.

Opening the discussion, the 40-year-old meteorologist asked Richard if he’d be willing to “reprise his role” while confessing to Richard that the programme had been one of his “all-time favourite series”.

Any hardcore fans of the BBC comedy would have known that the iconic character and protagonist Victor Meldrew had actually died in the last ever episode.

Stunned over his peculiar question, the TV legend chirped back: “Well I’m very pleased to hear you say but of course you know that Victor Meldrew is dead?”

The ITV weatherman fell about laughing before co-star Charlotte attempted to smooth over the blunder, adding: “Well stranger things have happened Richard.”

The red-faced presenter tried to cover his tracks, interjecting: “You say that but actually we’ve seen it happen in the past where characters actually come back to life.”

He asked Richard: “Why not?”

Making light of the situation, he joked: “Why not take one foot out of the grave?”

Answering the reprisal question, Richard pointed out that his former character “was dead”

The television star was less than impressed with the idea, explaining that director David Renwick would never take that approach because “he’s too clever”.

Richard went on: “David Renwick is a wonderful writer, I was doing a play in Manchester and he came to see me and said, I think I’m going to kill Victor what do you say?

“And I just thought for a second and then I said ‘kill him.'”

After the interview had wrapped up, viewers took to Twitter in their masses to point out Alex’s faux pas.

One person penned: “Alex Beresford asked Richard Wilson: ‘What are the chances of reprising your role as Victor Meldrew?’

‘You know that Victor Meldrew is dead right??’ #GMB.”

Another tweet read: “@alexberesfordTV just caught out lying pretending he loves one foot in the grave and will it return to the tv screens only for Richard Wilson to remind him the character is dead #gmb.”

While a third, referring to the character’s catchphrase, added: “Really #gmb I don’t believe it!”

Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV.
