GMB viewers in hysterics over gaffe as Richard Madeley's arm 'disappears'

Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley featured on the show this morning with Susanna Reid for various topics of discussion including the Covid-19 NHS app and sugar tax.

Despite fairly serious topics to cover on the show, fans were immediately distracted as Richard started talking with his hands.

As he turned to Susanna Reid to discuss the sugar tax further, he reached over with his hands which were immediately cut off at the edge.

From the slightest movement of merely picking up his pen, Richard was hit with an awkward gaffe as his arm disappeared just past his elbow.

Fans immediately noticed the gaffe as one user took to Twitter to share a screen grab writing: “Where’s Richard’s arm gone?”

Meanwhile, others shared a screen grab and merely shared laughing emojis alongside it.

The green screen was put in place to ensure social distancing between himself and Susanna.

ITV has been allowed to stay on live TV throughout lockdowns as they have remained social distancing, which can be seen in many long-shots within the ITV studio.

However, when both hosts are on TV in the same main shot, they appear to be closer together than they actually are, despite having the two metre distance between themselves.

As the pair faced their own awkward gaffe due to Covid-19 restrictions, they’re not the only ones, as they spoke to people this morning who have been unfortunate as they headed on a green-list holiday only to return to it on the amber list.

Speaking on the show this morning, Richard and Susanna welcomed Hayden Dando, who is double-jabbed and won’t need to isolate, onto their show as he revealed that his wife, who has had one jab, will need to isolate.

He said: “It’s crazy to be honest. I’m trying to wok out what the 4am deadline is, is it when we land? Is it when we go through baggage? Is it when we get to passport control? Trying to plan for that if my wife has to quarantine what we do, I’ve got to go back to work.”

At the minute Hayden is due to land in the UK at 3:15am on July 19, 45 minutes before the rules come into place, but there are concerns about whether they will be on time.

Despite looking for other flights, they have been left stumped as flights became more expensive and sold out immediately to UK travellers trying to return home as the new rules come into place next week.

GMB continues weekdays on ITV at 6am.
