GMB's Dr Hilary jokes he has 'intimate piercings' in Piers Morgan tattoo debate

Dr Hilary Jones has joked he has “intimate body piercings” instead of tattoos, after Piers Morgan continued his body ink debate on Good Morning Britain.

The controversial host left many Good Morning Britain viewers fuming on Tuesday as he said that people such as teachers should not have tattoos.

Not one to let things drop, Piers continued the debate on Wednesday morning – but he seems he doesn’t have to worry about offending Dr Hilary.

When he asked the “Covid pin-up” if he had any tattoos, the telly doc replied: “No, I’m more of an intimate body piercing man.”

Piers and co-host Susanna Reid immediately burst out into hysterical laughter, as a straight-faced Dr Hilary said: “What’s funny about that?”

As Piers began to pull himself together, he managed to say: “That’s the moment the halo came down and we realised he’s a total deviant.”

Later on in the episode, as the debate crawled on, some medical professionals got in touch and explained they had tattoos, and that it didn’t matter at all in their jobs.

Susanna jibed: “When you have intimate body piercings, Dr Hilary, it doesn’t matter so much.”

Seemingly confirming far more than any viewer would need to know, Piers added: “I’ll tell you what’s funny – people thought he was joking.”

On Tuesday’s episode, Piers said: “People say ‘Why bang on about his tattoos?’ I am sorry but when I was at school, you couldn’t have a headteacher with a bunch of tattoos.

“It just shows a lack of standards, Lord Nelson wouldn’t have allowed it.”

He went on: “I just don’t think headteachers should be covered in Beckham-style tattoos.

“I don’t like it, I come from an era where appearance matters, you should set an example – you don’t want to turn all our kids into ink-splattered tattoo blobs do you?”

Of course, Piers’ words did not go down well with viewers on Twitter, with people rushing to their keyboards to share their own thoughts.

One person tweeted: “Piers Moron showing himself up for the judgemental p**** he is bleating his views on tattoos.”

A second wrote: “How does a teacher having tattoos make a difference on his ability to teach? Piers come on! Would you have the same opinion on a doctor or nurse? Their ability does not change!”

And a third added: “Piers Morgan couldn’t be any more out of touch if he tried.”

The whole debate started after headteacher Lee Hill, who has tattoos on his arm, removed historical figures as the names of school houses.

Rather than Admiral Nelson or Francis Drake giving their names to the school houses, the likes of Greta Thunberg, Malala Yousafzai and Marcus Rashford were celebrated.

Piers said: “I think young people should be told this, they should be told who Lord Nelson was and why most pubs in the country are called Lord Nelson.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
