Andi Peters and Laura Tobin clashed over geography on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, after Laura corrected one of Andi’s claims.
Andi was getting badly splashed by the sea as he talked about the competition in Jersey, and ended his piece by saying: “If you sailed in a straight line from here, the next mass of land you would hit is actually the United States.”
It then cut to the weather, where Laura corrected his claim: “Just a note for Andi if he sailed West he would get to Canada and not America. Just saying,” she said before wincing as they brought Andi back onscreen.
“There were quite a few inaccuracies there!” insisted Laura as a shocked Andi replied: “Woah, woah, woah, girlfriend! In a straight line from exactly where I’m standing, apparently I would get to America!”
“On the same latitude? No,” argued Laura. “You’d be in Canada!”
“Latitude? I’m out of here!” said an embarrassed Andi.
“Okay, well hopefully I’m correct and Andi is wrong” panicked Laura.
She then tweeted a map with an arrow drawn on, adding: “If you travel west from Jersey you get to… Andi Peters says America, I say Canada!”
Viewers replied: “Certainly looks like Canada to me.”
“You’re both wrong, it’s Cuba,” insisted another.
“I used to work for both the Jersey and Ontario tourist boards. When promoting Ontario’s Niagara wine region we’d point out it is on the same latitude as southern France!” explained one viewer.
Andi replied hopefully: “So who’s right?”
The viewer replied: “Laura is I’m afraid Andi.”
Viewers were also cringing after the exchange: “You’re a very intelligent woman but your delivery to Andi was massively condescending… didn’t come across well” insisted one.
“Laura giving Andi Peters a lesson in geography… she rinsed him!” added another.
“Andi you’re wrong again!” said another.
