Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan are planning to “break some rules” together in a bid to put to bed any issues after the news anchor turned his back on Good Morning Britain.
The Life Stories star found himself in a heated debate with weatherman Alex Beresford following the bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
After the 55-year-old had stormed off of the ITV set and later handed in his notice, it appears thing may have turned “frosty” between the on-screen husband and wife.
Now wanting to patch things up, the pair have agreed when Covid-19 lockdown measures ease they’ll enjoy a “boozy lunch” together.
However, this would mean that Susanna, who has been sober for two years, would need to break her self-imposed rules in order for this to happen.
Writing for the Mail On Sunday, Piers explained that his former partner decided to pick the phone up for a “clear-the-air chat”.
Confirming their future plans, he said: “Susanna and I agreed to a boozy lunch.”
He added: “She apologised for the tone of her chilly goodbye, which was for all the reasons I suspected, and I apologised for leaving her in the lurch so suddenly.
“It was a good conversation, and we agreed that when the dust settles, we’ll have a long lunch to celebrate five extraordinary years.
“‘It won’t be a teetotal one either,’ laughed Susanna, who gave up alcohol two years ago. ‘I’ll definitely need to get drunk after this…'”
Given the circumstances and the drama that had unfolded surrounding Piers’ exit, it appears Susanna is game for bringing down the barriers.
Prior to the pair agreeing to let their hair down, Susanna had delivered a “chilly” speech after her co-star’s departure that sparked questions about their real relationship behind closed doors.
Susanna explained to the nation that things on the breakfast show would be “very different” without Piers at her side.
She said: “Piers and I have disagreed on many things and that dynamic was one of the things viewers loved about the programme.
“He is without doubt an outspoken, challenging, opinionated, disruptive broadcaster.
“He has many critics, and he has many fans. You will know that I disagreed with him about Meghan’s interview.”
Adding: “He has been my presenting partner for more than five years and during Brexit and the pandemic and other issues he has been a voice for many of you, and a voice that many of you have railed against.
“It is certainly going to be very different but shows go on and so on we go.”
