Richard Bacon has been confirmed as the new guest host for Good Morning Britain following Piers Morgan’s explosive departure back in March.
The guest host will be making his official return to the show next week as the latest to step into the shoes of the former Britain’s Got Talent judge, who left the show following his controversial comments about Meghan Markle.
Since his shocking exit, the show has trialled a range of guest hosts in his place over the past few months, including Alastair Campbell, Adil Ray and Richard Madeley.
The 45-year-old journalist will join the show on Wednesday, August 18 for four days alongside his co-host Charlotte Hawkins, Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh.
But not everyone is happy about the latest change to the show as viewers were torn about the recent decision on social media.
After the news was announced on Wednesday, fans took to Twitter to share their opinions on the new host of the morning news programme.
“I don’t mind him but he ain’t you though is he?” one user asked, tagging the former presenter.
Another added: “Sooooo pleased I don’t watch GMB,” while another fumed: “Not for me thanks.”
Yet some viewers were excited about the new replacement, and admitted they would be tuning in for his TV debut next week.
One user chimed in with: “Richard Bacon as the regular presenter of GMB is almost enough to make me watch it. What a bin fire that would be (in a good way).”
Another agreed: “Great choice! Nice to have someone with integrity and decency behind your desk.”
Speaking of his new appointment, Richard admitted that his return to the hit morning news show “feels like coming home.”
He said: “Not only am I coming home to London to guest present Good Morning Britain this month, but being back on British breakfast broadcasting feels like coming home also.
“I can’t wait to see the team again and am very much looking forward to my time on the show with Kate, Ranvir and Charlotte.”
The programme’s editor, Neil Thompson, went on to recognise the amazing work the guest hosts have done since Piers left the show and commended them for their hard work and excellent journalism.
He added: “Our mix of guest hosts on Good Morning Britain alongside our brilliant existing family of presenters has been a great success over recent months, and brings a diverse range of perspectives on the day’s news agenda.
“We’re delighted that Richard can return to join us this summer.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
