Grammys 2021 ceremony postponed following Covid-19 concerns

The Grammys 2021 ceremony has been postponed.

Organisers are frantically trying to find another date, Rolling Stone reported.

The ceremony, which was slated to air on January 31st, has been axed due to coronavirus concerns.

Bosses at the prestigious music event are yet to confirm a new date, but the media outlet reported it is likely the ceremony will take place in March.

The music ceremony was already set to be a limited one this year, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and social distancing restrictions.

Unlike in previous years, the 2021 ceremony was set to forgo a studio audience.

It was also going to only permit presenters and performers on-site at the studio, with the award nominees and winners all collecting their gongs virtually.

The show was set to have a whole host of A-Listers in the mix, with Beyoncé leading the charge with nine Grammy nominations.

British singer Dua Lipa, Taylor Swift and Roddy Richch, were close on Queen Bey’s heels with a total of six nominations each.

It is unknown whether host Trevor Noah, who was booked to present the January ceremony, will still present the show on its new air date.

Last year’s ceremony saw Lizzo and Billie Eilish garner the most nods from the Recording Academy.

The annual show is always held at the iconic Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, California.

The 2020 awards were tinged with emotion as the Academy paid tribute to Kobe Bryant, who tragically passed away in a helicopter crash.

Alicia Keys, who was presenting the ceremony, walked onstage and said: “We’re all feeling crazy sadness right now.

“Earlier today L.A., America and the whole wide world lost a hero.

“We’re standing here heartbroken in the house that Kobe Bryant built.”
