Before cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was tragically shot and killed by a prop gun on the set of Rust, she posted on social media about loving working on a Western movie.
The Hollywood film’s Director of Photography, 42, shared a touching video with her almost 10,000 Instagram followers, showing her riding through the set at Bonanza Creek Ranch, New Mexico, on horseback.
Giggling sweetly during a break from filming, the pro could be seen looking the part in a cowboy hat and scarf as she followed other cast members on horses through scrubland.
Captioning the clip, Hutchins wrote: “One of the perks of shooting a western is you get to ride horses on your day off.”
The cinematographer sadly died at Albuquerque’s University of New Mexico Hospital after being shot in the stomach with a stunt gun.
Santa Fe authorities have confirmed that it was lead actor and producer Alec Baldwin who discharged the prop firearm.
The star, 62, reportedly didn’t know it contained live rounds instead of blanks before he set it off.
He was later seen in tears after having broken down outside the local sheriff’s office, who have filed no charges.
After the tragic heartbreaking incident – which also left the film’s director Joel Souza seriously injured – fans, friends and fellow stars soon hurried to the comments with moving tributes.
Director, producer and screenwriter James Cullen Bressack penned: “I will miss you my friend… This is devastating”.
Actor, director, and producer Joseph Reitman said that he was “heartbroken” before posting a string of tearful emojis.
While fellow cinematographer Andrew Jeric added: “I can’t believe it. You were just here. Such a talent. Such a force. So much love to you and your family Halyna.”
Prior to her passing, Hutchins had a successful career as a Hollywood cinematographer, recently working on the likes of horror-thriller film The Mad Hatter and action-adventure flick Archenemy.
She also previously worked as a cameraperson or gaffer on a string of other titles too, including horror-thriller movie Darlin’ and comedy-drama film To The New Girl.
