TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has said she believes it would be good for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to come home, despite current tensions with the royal family.
After Lorraine discussed the Queen’s absence from the Remembrance Day celebrations on her morning programme, she went on to discuss Harry and Meghan’s recent court appearance with the Royal Editor for The Sunday Times Roya Nikkah.
“We have this very bizarre story about Harry and Meghan in this whole court appeal.
“This could be extremely embarrassing and they were told not to pursue it, the royal advisors said ‘Please don’t do this,'”Lorraine began.
Roya responded: “There’s frustration in the Royal family about how this is playing out. The advice, before they pulled the trigger, advisors and the Queen’s top lawyer said ‘Think this through. Think what could come out – text messages, disclosure, all of that.”
She went on: “What we saw in court last week was pretty dynamite. We saw Meghan apologise to the court, saying she didn’t mean to mislead them. We saw text messages of sensitive conversations between the Royal family. It’s not going the way they thought.”
Lorraine interjected: “No it’s not, is it? They’ve both got an open invite to Sandringham, and I just think it would be lovely, at Christmas, if they did come over and bring their kids and let the Queen meet her namesakes.”
She asked: “Do you think that might happen?”
To which Roya replied: “I think it might be a bit tense for the family.”
Lorraine joked: “Christmas is always tense for families!”
Roya went on: “It would be nice for her to see them. No-one has seen Archie for a couple of years.”
Lorraine ended: “Christmas can cause tension but it can also build bridges. That’s what they need to do, just get on with it.”
Text messages between the Duchess of Sussex and her former communications secretary Jason Knauf were published this week.
In the texts, Meghan claimed that Harry faced “constant berating” from the Royal Family over her relationship with her father.
Meghan successfully sued Associated Newspapers Limited over five articles that published segments of private letters she had sent to her father in 2018, which the High Court ruled the publication as unlawful.
